wee Chibi wabbit

Chibi - according to Wikipedia is a Japanese word for diminutive person, or a style of anime caricature. Our fascination with Japan and things Japanese began years ago when we lived in Okinawa. The chibi found in the anime cartoons have been a special favorite of mine with characteristic small arms and legs, small body, and large head. Here's the first of my little Chibi rabbits and I expect there will be bears and other friends to follow. I haven't measured this dear chap yet, but I suspect he sits no more than two inches tall  - not counting his ears.

I've made him a sunflower pincushion to sit upon! If you'd like to see how I did this, check back soon and I'll show you!

And now for a peak at what I've been doing in the clay studio. This is a Panda Tea House I've made using the coil technique fashioning a teapot that looks like a pumpkin and then making it into a little house for tiny pandas. I hope to have it fired and ready to go for the upcoming show in Philadelphia. Fingers crossed it doesn't explode in the kiln!

And a view from the back. One always needs windows to look out of when enjoying tea. I'm sure the pandas will appreciate them.

and another view from the back. Wee Chibi Wabbit has a bushy white tail! Hope you like the look of these wee friends! I hope to have a couple in my Etsy shop next week. Check back for more news!

Quilt Show Goodies

The annual quilt fest was recently held in Hampton, Virginia, and the vendors who are there with all their goodies make for a wonderful time for all us attendees! Now the photo above shows Rocky and Pippin - not goodies from the show - but goodies who warm our hearts and keep us laughing!

I bought many luxurious ribbons you'll be seeing in outfits for my little bears and bunnies and other friends!

I wish you could see them up close! They are almost too pretty to cut!

Hand dyed threads are something I'm always on the lookout for - and I had to try out one color combination just as soon as I could wind it into a ball.

I just love all these beautiful spring colors!

I have no bears in residence at the moment so I had to ask a tiny sculpture in my kitchen window to show you just how pretty that pink thread is!

I think this will look lovely trimming a party dress for a bear tea party!

And this is certainly my favorite with the beautiful tiny pink ribbon roses. Hmmmm ..... now what color dress should these go on??

Hmmmm......no help here! The kitties are busy looking at the birdies out the window!!
Can't wait for the wonderful show again next year!!!

Flowers Everywhere!

Every year I look forward to the first daffodil. This year, before I knew it, there were lots blooming all at once! These are the tiny miniature variety and are in a sheltered spot beside my front steps. The big guys will be later blooming. It does seem as though they bloom earlier and earlier each year, though.

On my front steps are pots of pansies I planted in the late fall. They got a good start then and with all the rain, they are doing very well! I just love the bright cheery colors!

And indoors, my beautiful glorious bouquet of Valentine flowers from Travis. Here's a detail of the wonderful display of pinks, purples, and reds - what a riot of color!

I was enjoying them while I sewed - and then Kim's Beau came along to enjoy the lovely fragrance.

and  I decided it was probably best to move the flowers to the mantle.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here are two of my little ones asking for you to be their Valentine today! Please feel free to copy these photos and send them to whomever you wish!
A wise person once said that your love should be like the heat from a bonfire - Available to everyone and denied to no one. I certainly like that notion and subscribe to it myself!! So.......when I say: Love to all, I mean it!!
Happy Valentines Day to all! May your day be filled with LOVE!! Here's some from me!!!

I Love this Bunny!

This little cutie is headed for Illinois and his new Mom tomorrow! I made a panda bunny last year, but this one is made from that new extra extra long fur fabric from Threadteds in the Netherlands.
Jonathan , as he will be called, should reach his destination in time for Valentine's day, but he's carrying some festive Easter decorations along with him.

I found this dandy egg with a picture of a bunny with similar coloring to our Jonathan!

I hope you like this sweet little darling as much as I do. It will be hard to put him into his traveling box tomorrow. I may have time to make another panda bunny or two before Easter, so if you are interested in one, be sure to sign up for notification of new friends in my Etsy shop!

Give Away - Many Thanks!!!!

Whenever I see the list of visitors from all over the world that visit this Blog/Website, I am just overwhelmed. I thank each of you so very much for your interest in me and my bears (bunnies, elephants, turtles, etc.) I wish I could make a little furry friend for each of you, but since I can't, this is what I can do! The little lady in the photograph above will be given away on the last day of January and will hopefully reach the winner by Valentine's Day! I've named her Valentine and she will be bringing my love and thanks with her.

Now here's how we'll do it! If you would like to have a chance to win Valentine, please leave a comment on this posting with your name and email address. I will not publish any of these and will use that web place that picks random numbers to choose the winner. The contest will be over at 6 p.m. on January 31st of 2013 EST. I'll contact the winner at the email address listed and will publish the winner's initials and will let you know where Valentine will be traveling as soon as I have that information from the winner. I won't keep the information you put on the comment page and will not give it to anyone else - this is just between you and me!

I hope you can tell how soft Miss Valentine is from the photo above. She is so huggy and I've made a red wool felt hat for her with a silk ribbon bow on it. She is not suitable for children as she has sparkly black glass eyes. I'll ask the winner to send me a note saying that they understand she's meant for grown ups.
So - Good Luck! I hope you will enjoy taking part and I thank each of you more than you could ever know!!

Love to all,
Donna

EVERYONE PLEASE NOTE!!! YOUR COMMENT WILL NOT APPEAR AS I WILL NOT PUBLISH THEM TO KEEP YOUR EMAIL ADDRESSES CONFIDENTIAL. SINCE SEVERAL OF YOU HAVE WRITTEN TO ME WITH A CONCERN, I WILL EMAIL YOU TO LET YOU KNOW YOUR NAME WILL BE COUNTED WHEN I RECEIVE YOUR EMAIL! THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR INTEREST!

And the winner is!!!! MW in the U. K. Congratulations! Valentine will be flying across the pond soon!

I'm delighted to tell you that my tiny "Travis" has won an TOBY Industry's Choice Award from Teddy Bear and Friends Magazine. The voting for the Public's Choice Award will take place later in the year. I'll be sure to let you know about it.
